Beautiful new Venue in Gippsland Hills
Forest Lodge Farm, Jack River
Adjacent to Alberton State Forest, overlooking the Strzelecki Ranges

The Winter Camp this year goes to a place with that rich country feel,  2hrs 30mins away from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne City life.  Forest Lodge Farm is home to a variety of very tame farm animals 2 horses, 15 sheep, 1 duck, 7 goats, 20 chickens, 10 geese, 1 pig and 1 dog and an animal nursery, where a lot of the baby animals are bottle fed . Campers with the help of the Camp staff may have the opportunity to help out with feeding and caring for the animals.

The facilities are ideal for our Camp. The accommodation is of a high quality and we will be able to configure kids of different ages, small family groups, adults etc in a way that will satisfy everyone's needs.  There is a large separate recreation room for our chess-playing activities, as well as a
good-sized  dining room, that can easily be utilized for indoor activities.

The camp  also boasts a cosy accommodation lounge with huge open fire place and state of the art, surround sound and  audio/visual system and a large projector screen.

The camp does not have WIFI but has good mobile reception.

We plan to utilize some of the Camp's own exciting range of team-building camp activities in addition to our chess program.  Its 40 acres of flat open land is home to a wide array of fun activities and facilities.

  • Flying Fox

Camp Itinerary

Main activities

Our two main chess activities ongoing throughout the 4 days will be small group coaching sessions (streamed according to experience level and/or age), and our "team-format" Camp tournament.  There will also be one-on-one coaching, detailed post-game analysis and pre-game preparation for the tournament games. Our main Camp tournament will be played at our Vic Youth time limits of 25 mins + 10 secs per move (recording moves), with the team format in a multi-age camp ensuring that everybody plays only against players of an equivalent level.  We shall also have our very popular Blitz Tournament (5 minute games) in which you may will have the opportunity to play against our coaches too!! We will break up the program with an appropriate level of non-chess activities, including a selection of the great team-building exercises offered at Forest Lodge, and will also run a variety of fun and educational evening activities
