Who are the coaches?

We have selected the best coaches available for the task at hand. Some players look to a coach's rating as a measure of how good they are... we know that can be misleading. We have selected coaches who are firstly and most importantly able to engage with their students and inspire and motivate them to reach their full potential.

_IM Robert Jamieson (VIC)

_International Master, Robert Jamieson has been one of the foremost chess players and coaches in Australia for the last 30 years! A former Australian Champion, Australian Open Champion and Australian Lightning Champion. A member of the Australian Olympiad Team 1974, 1976, 1978, 1980 and 1982. Former President of the Australian Chess Federation, holder of the Australian Simultaneous games record and owner of the largest private library of chess books in Australia. Since 1885 there have only been 10 Life Memberships of the Australian Chess Federation awarded, Robert holds one.

David Cordover (National Coordinator)

David founded Chess Kids in 1997 with the vision of providing the opportunity for every child in Australia to learn and play chess. And he's done just that. Chess Kids now provides opportunities to hundreds of thousands of kids each year right across Australia and New Zealand.

FM Carl Gorka (VIC)

_Widely regarded as one of the best (and hardest working) coaches in Australia, Carl is an English International (rated 2195) who has played international events in a number of countries. In the 6 years he’s been in Australia, he’s helped to start 2 chess clubs, has written commentary for the Victorian Championships and Australian Masters, and has coached Victorian and Australian Junior Champions.

Owen Short (TAS)

Owen is an enthusiastic and engaging young coach who has run camps and coaching programs for the TCA, Black Square and Chess Kids in the past few years. His playing achievements include being captain of the State Championship interschool team and representing Tasmania in National events on 3 occasions.
